Mental Health Coalition

Strategy | Typography | Branding | Color | Ad Campaigns

The Mental Health Coalition, 988, and Kenneth Cole hosted an intensive, three-day ad competition to promote the crisis line to college students. Recognizing that this audience often uses dark humor to cope, my team crafted the message, “You are significant, but you are not special,” to convey that while their struggles are valid, they are not alone.

My Process

As the designer, I selected a weird, unsettling font that stretches when capitalized to grab attention. I worked within the Coalition’s color palette, but inverted it with bold colored text on a black background for greater visual impact.

We integrated “988” into everyday items like soap, air fresheners, and lighters, ensuring visibility during vulnerable moments. These creative decisions helped secure the win for our team.

This version flows more logically, highlights the win upfront, and presents a cohesive narrative while maintaining clarity.
